Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s death is one of the biggest mysteries in India. There have been several theories and rumors despite an official announcement about his demise from his grandniece and nephew. Even today, many people continue to look for evidence of Netaji’s death. But again, to no avail. So, what is this mystery? What were the theories? Is it true? What is the truth? Come, let’s find out:
Below are the three major claims made in regards to Netaji’s death:
-
Plane Crash in Taiwan
After Subhas became the commanding officer for Azad Hind Fauz in 1943, he successfully established a provisional government for it in the year, 1944. However, just a few years before the independence of the country, he disappeared. A Japanese news agency claimed that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose died in a plane crash on August 18. It was reported that the incident occurred in the Japanese-controlled Matsuyama military airport in Taiwan.
-
Tortured to Death
Another theory was that Netaji wasn’t killed in the plane crash. It was nothing but a rumour to cover up his escape to the Soviet Union. An author named G.D. Bakshi wrote in his book, “Bose: The Indian Samurai – Netaji and the INA Military Assessment” that when the Soviet government shifted its base to Siberia, Bose set up an embassy in Russia where he made three radio broadcasts. When they found out, they interrogated Bose wherein he was tortured to death.
-
Living in Disguise
A Bengali commercial movie on Gumnami Baba hit the screen. It was a story about a handful of disciples who believed that Gumnami Baba was Netaji’s living incognito. To reveal his true identity, the UP government took the matter into their hands. However, their findings are kept under wraps.
